The newest offering from the Java stable, a UI framework that can leverage all the Java knowledge of the vast Java Developer community on planet Earth!

JavaFX is the name.

Was truely impresed by the cool RIA presentations at the Eight edition of Bangalore BarCamp recently. Inspired, went ahead to submit my maiden JavaFX project at the Sun India Code JavaFX contest.

The idea was a System Graph application, that used JavFX effect to draw a snapshot of a desktop. The project is hosted publicly at http://code.google.com/p/systemgraph.

Probably a dream of every passionate Java developer on the planet.

My JavaFX project got it worth. The white Sun Tee I am flaunting today is the bonus. Such a goody goody feeling amidst all the recession negativities filling the air everywhere.

I am sure JavaFX is here to live and wish it a long life!

Google Developer Day 2008

18th of Oct, 2008 , Google hosted it first ever Developer Day in India. The invite was a joyous exhilaration of the umpteenth kind. (I am a BIGG Google products' fan!)

The registration badge had a personalized pre-chosen agenda for each participant based on the track selection on the application portal. Hmm.. impressive. It also bore a map of the location so that you are not lost changing locations for the different events.

The Keynote was delivered by Dr.Prasad Ram, Google India Head. He revealed Google's focus on three chanllenges facing the computing world -- Clients, Cloud and Connectivity.

Techtalks -- I attended the Google Desktop API and GWT (Web Toolkit) tech talks.

The Desktop API session was an introduction to how the API can be used to develop Gadgets for Google Desktop. The talk had generated quite an interest how the highly rich and interactive Gadgets can be so simple to develop.

The GWT session showcased Google's own Flex-like UI framework using just JavaScript. And its free. It was no less than Adobe's expensive tools which are also plugin dependent. And the cherry on the cake -- write code in Java and the tool cross compiles it to JavaScript. And there you do away with the ugly world of JavaScript debugging.

Codelabs -- Desktop API and OpenSocial.

After intial hitches of WiFi and power connectivity we were finally geared up writing our own Gadget after a couple of demos. Goodies and moolah were on stake and suddenly the creative juices started flowing. My Gadget is awaiting its fate -- results have not arrived yet!

Goodies to flaunt -- A T-shirt with the event banner at the back and product icons (Gears, AppEngine, Android ) on the front. A 2GB pendrive with Google Software.

Lovely day, and I will be there next year as well. Definitely!

Its the day of Barcamp-5 !!
Reaching IIM wasn't as traffic friendly as anticipated; anticipated since this being a Saturday and geek kept away from roads embracing their couch after the Friday-night-beer hangover! However reach quite in time not to miss the breakfast - "Chowchow bath!!" after a long-loooong time :D

The kick start gathering of the last barcamp was missing which I was looking forward to in particular as it did provide a common place to identify the collective heads during the intros and the crack jokes from all corners ..
Looked up the collective schedules and there was no second choice to "Xtreme programming". And the next two hours were with this bunch Agile programming methodology guys..{was hungry for this having heard a lot about it from next cube colleague Deepak whose friend works for this same Co..} Kinda cool -- you are the owner of the entire code..{or no one is!}.. but at a price ..a geek shouldering as you code those never-sure-which-data structure to use!! {Yea yea I know..i got to think beyond this..!!@#$%} So Mr.Agiles' I truly appreciate and adore the IDEA which said that the bug I create {unknowingly} comes to the team and not me :) Took away cool buzzwords in the process - ScumManager, SwimLane ..

A tummy full me headed to the post lunch collective - "UI Design & Usability". It was all about not using checkboxes while accepting your GENDER information into my STRAIGHT database :) So how many radio buttons we use as Abhishek {the collective head} joked about "I am like this ..but i am a bit like that also..HAHA" I also took home this 'aaha' quote from the session --
"This site is best viewed by EYE (not IE) only" -- Emphasizing that web UI development should be end user driven rather than browser driven.

Tea time photography, t-shirt and then headed on for the next fun -- "Generic gals and boys myths and facts".. aptly named collective to ensure a full house :D ... Who loses more in a marriage --the Martian or the one from Venus ...? Do women at workplace see a glass ceiling? Why are there ladies special buses? Why do companies have a week or less of paternal leave but a year long maternal leave? How girls stare at boys and still hide the act? ..ah this session was a free stress buster! Hilarious and liveliest.

And then the announcement :
"All those who want to have a real BAR camp tonight can gather and we decide the daru adda there!" And it meant GO HOME AMIT! the day is done :)

AAHAAA Barcamp is here again!

The fifth edition of Bangalore_Barcamp is da second I am a part of. Barcamp4 was the maiden one it was quite enuf to trigger an addiction :)

Things cool about the barcamp? -- the innovative collectives {non geeky ones are refreshing after those classroom sessions :) }, the arguments, the NEW buds, reunion with the oldies, the serene IIM-B ambiance {good god, the venue remains same --- i cannot imagine a second spot in the city which can match IIM's facilities and greens} and of course the free food!!

Anticipating a fun filled learning weekend can get no better!! what say :D
